I tend to feel relatively underwhelmed by the styling on Mercedes vehicles. If BMWs tend towards being understated, a Benz is outright boring in my book. And when you’re paying premium money for a high-end car, I would think any buyer would be expecting looks that match the price tag.
With Audi, Porsche, Jaguar and others offering intriguing design cues and sultry lines in their top-end models, it’s about time that Mercedes joined the party. And what an entrance they’ve made.
With the blunted front nose that we’ve come to expect from Mercedes and a flowing rear that you might expect out of a Porsche, this car is true to its roots while incorporating a hefty dose of modern design elements. A functional rear wing pops up at higher speeds, but retracts when driving around town to preserve the elegant look. The interior, of course, is everything you’d expect from a car that costs six-figures.
Of course, none of this matters if the car doesn’t perform. Jalopnik did a first drive of it recently and came away impressed. And with stats (S-version) of 503 hp, 479 ft-lb of torque, and a 0-60 time around 3.6 seconds, it’s easy to see that the GT walks the walk. The only bummer is that it comes in a front-engine configuration, though the car still boasts a 47:53 weight distribution despite that.
With looks that kill and the power to jump start your heart, is the Mercedes AMG GT your new dream car?
